Debunking The Myth That 'Good' Men Can't Do Bad Things: The Rowan Baxter Case

Rowan Baxter was a successful NRL player and CrossFit Coach. He was the father of three young children, Laianah, Aaliyah and Trey, and has been described by friends as a "loving and dedicated" parent. At least, this is the narrative the mainstream media would have you believe. On 19th of February, Baxter's ex-partner, Hannah Clark, was preparing to drive their three children to school. Baxter doused the car in petrol, set it alight, and took his own life. There were no survivors. Unfortunately this story is all too familar. Studies have shown that on average,   one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner.  Almost 40% of women continue to experience abuse from a former partner while temporarily separated. However, news coverage of the incident frequently framed the murder as a freak incident. Journalists expressed outrage that such events could happen a "picture perfect" Brisbane family.
